Le Mouv'

Le Mouv' is a free download radio station which is a French youth oriented radio station that started broadcasting on June 17, 1997 as part of Radio France attempt to venture into being a public radio station. It is Radio France second attempt to enter the music industry following Radio 7 which is a commercial free rock based radio station format that closed down in 1988.

Le Mouv’ was launched by Michel Boyon who back then saw that the average age of public radio listeners was gradually getting older. Its re-launch also signalled and starts the end of Le Mouv’ local public programmes as it aimed to become a national station. Later it also entered the world of online radio broadcasting to become an international radio station which you can download radio for free.

Initially it played eclectic format, mixing pop, rock and electronic dance music mixed with basic information for its young listeners. As it evolved and entered the global music industry the station changed its strategy and now primarily plays alternative rock music. The Le Mouv’ radio station does not see itself as a rock music radio station but rather a radio station having a rock spirit. It sees rock music not purely as a genre of music but most importantly as a way of life.

Currently it is estimated that the Le Mouv’ free online radio station has 16 million active listeners worldwide and is progressively increasing. It now transmits good quality music over the four corners of the world in its aim to reach out to all types of cultures and generations.
